ProbablyGenetic offers two pathways to genetic testing:
Free (no-cost) testing Funded through partnerships with patient advocacy groups, researchers, and pharmaceutical developers for specific genetic conditions. Because funding is limited, we have a set number of tests available at any time and eligibility is based on how closely your profile matches an active program. If approved, testing is completely free- no insurance required.
Insurance-billed testing If you don't qualify for free testing right now, we may qualify for the insurance program where you will connected you with a board-certified genetic counselor who can pursue testing through your insurance. Most patients pay little to nothing- see "How much will this cost me?" for more details.
Why do we ask for insurance information even if testing is free? We collect it so we can evaluate all your options at once. If you don't qualify for free testing, we can immediately check whether insurance-billed testing is an option- without extra steps. Providing insurance information does not mean you will be billed.
How it works (both pathways start the same way)
- Create a profile and complete your symptom and health assessment
- Assessment is typically reviewed within two weeks
- You'll be notified by email and in your profile whether you qualify for free testing or insurance-billed testing
- If approved for insurance-billed testing, you'll be connected with a genetic counselor at no cost to you
